Racing Louisville FC on Saturday announced a handful of roster moves as the National Women’s Soccer League preseason continues.
The club waived midfielder Taylor Malham and the rights to NWSL Draft picks Jadyn Edwards and Brianna Martinez.
In turn, Racing added U18 trialist Ella Sanchez and non-roster invitee Abbey Burdette to its preseason roster ahead of Saturday’s scrimmage against the Chicago Red Stars in Indianapolis.
Sanchez, the reigning Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year, has been a standout with the Racing Louisville Academy, playing for the club’s USL W League team last summer and featuring for the U.S. Youth National Team at the U17 World Cup in the fall. She recently trained with Swedish power BK Häcken FF during the club’s preseason before returning to Louisville.
Burdette just graduated from the University of Tennessee, where she scored six goals in 85 career appearances primarily as a defender, helping the Volunteers win the 2021 SEC title and make two NCAA Tournaments.
Malham signed with Racing last year after entering preseason camp as a non-roster invitee. The former University of Arkansas standout made five appearances across all 2022 competitions, playing 48 minutes.
Martinez was a second-round selection in the NWSL Draft out of Notre Dame. Racing picked Edwards, a former University of New Mexico star, in the third round.
Racing is building toward a 22-game regular season that will play out over seven months, starting on Sunday, March 26, and concluding in mid-October.
