Tournament rules
Should the matches be tied after 90 minutes, they’ll be decided by penalty shootout. All teams have unlimited substitutions in three substitution windows, plus the additional halftime substitution window.
Know the foes
Deportivo Cali won Colombia’s top-tier league in 2021 and finished second in 2022. Colombian superstar Linda Caicedo, who signed with Spanish giant Real Madrid after the World Cup, was a breakout player at Deportivo before her star turn on the global stage last summer. Manuella Paví, a forward for the Colombian national team, is at the Concacaf W Gold Cup. Deportivo Cali opened its 2024 Liga Femenina season with a 1-0 loss.
América de Cali features three members from Colombia’s history-making 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad, including defender Carolina Arias, defender Fabiana Yanten and goalkeeper Natalia Giraldo. América was the South American club with the most players participating in the recent WWC. The club won the league in 2019 and again in 2022 and has three top-three finishes in the Copa Libertadores Femenina over the last four years. América de Cali opened its season with a 1-0 win, with Leury Basanta scoring a 90th-minute winner.
Gotham is, of course, familiar to Racing fans. The New Jersey-based squad will feature U.S. Women’s National Team legend Kelley O’Hara and Spanish stars Esther Gonzalez and Maitane Lopez at TWC Colombia, though Juan Carlos Amoros’s side will be without stars Midge Purce, Lynn Williams, Rose Lavelle, Tierna Davidson, Crystal Dunn, Jenna Nighswonger and Emily Sonnett, who are all with the USWNT at the Concacaf W Gold Cup. Gotham will still have a number of key players in addition to Gonzalez, Lopez and O’Hara, including Brazilian fullback Bruninha, former Racing regular Nealy Martin and forward Yazmen Ryan.
