Racing Louisville’s fourth-round NWSL Draft pick Sam Cary has signed with a Swedish club, Cary announced Friday.
Cary’s first professional contract is with IFK Norrköping, which plays in the top-tier Damallsvenskan.
The 48th overall pick in this year’s NWSL Draft, Cary spent five weeks with Racing during preseason, including an appearance as a substitute in Tuesday’s semifinal of The Women’s Cup Colombia, a 2-0 Louisville win. The University of Iowa grad departed team camp in Colombia on Wednesday.
Players selected in the NWSL Draft are not guaranteed contracts with NWSL clubs. Instead, clubs have a 60-day window to sign any of their draft picks. However, players may still sign with non-NWSL clubs.
